Vickers Support 100% Reusable Goodness!
Arran Sykes, Process Operator at Vickers Laboratories, previously used to volunteer at local Leeds based children’s charity Scrap Centre of Creative Reuse, Play and Learning or SCRAP. When he joined the team at Vickers Laboratories he was keen to make good use of the recyclable materials and put them in contact with SCRAP.
The social enterprise based in Leeds, focus on helping the environment by reusing waste materials from businesses as resources for art and play. Operating from a Mill in Farsley, the charity collects discarded materials originally destined for landfill and reuse and repurpose these for art and play in the local community.
Keen to see what happens with their recycled materials a few members of the Vickers staff popped down to have a look at the SCRAP shop and were thoroughly impressed. The sheer volume of recycled materials they have is astonishing and what they have done with them is even more so.
As well as a SCRAP shop, the charity runs creative workshops and training, family learning, drop in sessions and school projects based around environment and reuse.
It was interesting to learn that some of the Vickers materials goes into making SCRAP sheds, featured in schools and made for outdoor creative play. The SCRAP sheds encourage children to use their imagination, taking them outside away from technology and encouraging them to explore different materials and interaction without adult intervention.
Vickers Laboratories will continue to support SCRAP and their initiative, and look forward to their continued relationship.
