Vickers MD Cycles for Cystic Fibrosis Awareness
On Sunday 13th March, Vickers Laboratories Managing Director Steve Foster took part in the 65 Roses Spring classic cycling sportive to raise money for Cystic Fibrosis.
The 68 mile cycling event took place in the rolling hills, east of Cudworth, near Barnsley, with the aim to recreate the thrill of a typical Belgian classic race, within the heart of Yorkshire. Over the course of the day the riders cycled through a number of stages in a similar style to the Paris Roubaix style which were reordered to measure each individual’s performance. The day began cold and foggy as all riders geared up for a staggered 9am ‘Grand Départ’. However, on the final return through one of the flatter sections of riding just east of the A1 the sun burnt through and the final hour of the ride was spent in glorious spring sunshine.
Steve Foster commented on the event, “I was delighted to take part and help raise vital funds for this great charity. Involvement with the local community and charities is of paramount importance to us as a business and to me personally, especially when I can couple this with my passion for cycling. The day was a great success despite the weather and lots of money raise.”
The event had close to 300 participants cycling both the long course and the shorter 47 mile course. All proceeds from the event go towards Team Cystic Fibrosis, a charity cycling team who aim to help raise awareness of Cystic Fibrosis and to raise funds for the Cystic Fibrosis trust in the UK.
